Search for kayaker at McQuade Safe Harbor

On July 28, 2023 at 1629 hours the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, US Coast Guard and Lakewood Fire Department responded to McQuade Safe Harbor for a report of a kayaker that the reporting party couldn't see anymore in the waves. The reporting party stated it was a red kayak and appeared to be a male with shorter hair. The RP stated the person was last seen about 40 feet passed the rocks.

Upon first responders arrival, the US Coast Guard and Rescue Squad boats started checking the area with ground units searching the shoreline. Further information was received from the initial reporting party. A timeline was established from the reporting party last seeing the kayaker about 30 minutes prior as they had left the area and came back and were then unable to see the kayaker and called 911 concerned for the kayaker. At no time did the kayaker appear to be in distress. There were no missing people or unaccounted for vehicles in the parking area.

The thorough search was completed. The search was then called off as there were no additional pieces of information or reason to believe the kayaker was ever in distress.
