More road closures in Meadowlands affect detour route for bridge construction
The spring thaw combined with melting snow runoff has now forced the closure of another road in Meadowlands Township. Highway 29 is now closed to all through traffic. It had been part of the designated detour route while the Highway 133 bridge across the Whiteface River is being rebuilt.
Barricades have been set up and detour signs are being posted. The new recommended detour will direct motorists to use Highways 7, 27 and 5. St. Louis County Public Works will continue to monitor the condition of Highway 29, which is a gravel road, and reopen it when conditions allow.
All motorists in the area are reminded that spring load restrictions are in place due to the soft ground. Heavy vehicles are not allowed to travel on roads with posted limits in order to minimize damage to these gravel roads.
County State Aid Highway 133 east of Meadowlands has been closed since February due to a construction project replacing the bridge crossing the Whiteface River. Earlier today it was announced that Meadowlands Township had to closed Swedetown Road, which had become an unofficial detour since the project started, because of its deteriorating condition.
The bridge reconstruction project remains on schedule for a completion of June 30, 2023.
