County to present Public Health Achievement Awards at April 4 Board Meeting
Four local agencies and individuals will be honored with Public Health Achievement Awards for their work to improve the health of individuals and communities in St. Louis County. The awards will be presented by the St. Louis County Board and the county's Public Health Division during the St. Louis County Board Meeting on April 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the County Board Room at the Courthouse in Duluth.
This year's honorees include the Ely Community Health Center, First Ladies of the Hillside, the Rural Aids Action Network (RAAN) and Duluth City Councilor Terese Tomanek. Each has shown leadership and commitment as they worked to address a variety of public health focus areas.
The awards are presented annually as part of National Public Health Week, which is April 3-9, 2023.
"The pandemic certainly raised people's awareness of the work and importance of Public Health," said Linnea Mirsch, St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services Director. "But there are many other public health priorities that we are addressing because the needs are significant. We are helping pregnant moms deliver healthy babies, and working with families and individuals to improve access to nutritious food, medical care and mental health supports. We're assisting elderly clients to maintain independent living. And we're addressing other infectious diseases, not just COVID, that circulate in our communities.
St. Louis County Public Health is a division of the Public Health and Human Services Department. Public Health nurses, nutritionists and other staff serve citizens countywide from offices in Duluth, Virginia, Hibbing and Ely.
