Youth in Action "Make a Difference" conference is February 27

The annual conference featuring workshops presented by students for students is back in-person for the first time since before the pandemic, and for the first time ever will be held at the new Iron Trail Motors Event Center in Virginia. The Youth in Action "Make a Difference" conference is February 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Approximately 350 students in grades 7-12 from 17 schools throughout the county are expected to attend this day of inspiration and sharing.

The Make a Difference Conference is presented by the St. Louis County Youth in Action Program and funded in part by the St. Louis County Board and numerous local organizations, businesses and colleges.

Youth in Action members have put together five workshops to present at the conference. Below is the list of topics, and the schools that the presenting students attend:

  • “Building Bridges and Creating Boundaries” - Mountain Iron-Buhl
  • “What’s in Your Phone?” - North Woods
  • “Stressed to the Max” Marshall School
  • “Adopt Don’t Shop: Facts About Pet Adoption” - Hibbing
  • Zumba – presented by various YIA students

Students also will take part in a service project as part of the conference - a supply drive benefiting Range Regional Animal Rescue. Keynote speaker this year is "the Safari Dude" Steve Fredlund, who asks young people if they have "the right peeps in the jeep" for life's epic adventure.

The mission of the annual Make a Difference Conference is to strengthen, educate, and inspire young people with the help of partners so they can make a difference in their communities through leadership, advocacy, and service; and to recruit, grow, and promote the Youth in Action program.
