Incident Summary:

The Chisholm Fire Department and St. Louis County Rescue Squad were dispatched to the Redhead Mountain bike adventure Parks, water recreation area located at the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm, to assist 4 kayakers.

The kayakers became stranded on the east end of one of the mine pits due to strong westerly winds that produced challenging conditions on the water. The four kayakers were able to beach their kayaks on land and call 911 for assistance. It was determined that a powered watercraft was the best way to reach the kayakers due to the steep surrounding terrain.

All for kayakers and their kayaks were successfully transported back to the landing area by St. Louis County rescue squad members. All four kayakers were wearing life jackets during their adventure and did not report any injuries other than a little embarrassment.

If you are intending on heading to the lake to celebrate this Fourth of July weekend the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office would like to remind you to avoid consuming alcoholic beverages while operating watercraft and always wear your lifejacket.

Have a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend.
