Incident Summary:
On 06/22/22 at about 1826 Hours, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, along with Fire Department and medical personnel, were called to a structure fire in the 3900 block of W. Tischer Rd. in the City of Rice Lake. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that three individuals lived on the property. Two of those individuals were in the detached garage when they noticed black smoke coming from the main residence. When they checked on the residence, they found the third individual, a 33-year-old adult male, lying on the rear deck. He appeared to have severe burns throughout his body. They moved the victim to the backyard as the fire continued to grow and engulf much of the home. The Rice Lake Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. The adult male burn victim was initially transported to Essentia Health by Mayo Clinic Ambulance and ultimately airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center for advanced care.
The Sheriff’s Office, Rice Lake Fire Department and State Fire Marshal investigated the scene. The area of origin is believed to be the bedroom, where the adult male was residing. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation; however, it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

The burn victim has been identified as 33-year-old Myles Summers. He remains in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
