Online auction happening now through June 9 for new tax-forfeited land and properties
Online bidding has opened for St. Louis County's second auction of the year featuring first-time-available tax-forfeited properties. Nearly 50 properties are available for bidding at publicsurplus.com through June 9, at 11 a.m. The online auction can be accessed at stlouiscountymn.gov/currentauction.
The auction list includes lots in communities throughout the county including several that have been cleaned up and structures razed; homes in Chisholm and Virginia; a commercial property in Virginia; and waterfront properties on Ban Lake, Elbow Lake, Turpela Lake and the Ash River.
The complete list of properties, as well as a catalog with photos, maps and details about each one, including the starting bid price, is available online at stlouiscountymn.gov/landsales, or by calling the Land and Minerals Department at (218) 726-2606. Catalogs also can be found at numerous gas stations, grocery stores and other businesses throughout the county.
To be eligible to bid, a person cannot have any delinquent property taxes on property they already own in St. Louis County. People who have delinquent property taxes must first pay what they owe before purchasing at auction or over the counter from the Available List.
Within St. Louis County, there are nearly 900,000 acres of tax-forfeited land, which the County's Land and Minerals Department is responsible for managing. Most of the land is maintained for resource management; however, the county also encourages the sale of land that is not suitable for management as a way to encourage development and increase the property tax base.

 This one-story commerical building previously housed a retail store. It includes eight separate offices, reception area and more. Starting bid is $16,050.
 This property is approximately 4.77 acres and includes about 455 feet of frontage on Ban Lake. It is accessible by water only. Starting bid is $41,700.
 This two-bedroom, one-bathroom home in Chisholm includes an unfinished basement and detached garage. Starting bid is $21,200 (plus a certified assessment of $59.36 that must be paid at the time of sale).
