Update: In Custody

Over the past few days, St Louis County deputies have been actively investigating several tips regarding the possible location of NERCC escapee Kris Richard Severin. During this ongoing investigation it was learned that Severin had prior connections with a homeowner living in an unorganized township, south of the City of Eveleth.

Deputies attempted to make contact with this the homeowner several times throughout the day on Thursday. During one of these attempts, at approximately 11:00 P.M., deputies pulled into the yard of the residence and observed Severin knocking on the front door.

Upon seeing deputies Severin fled into a large wet swampy area located west of the residence. Additional law enforcement resources later arrived on scene to include a canine. Law enforcement attempted to locate Severin for the next several hours however, moderate falling rain showers and the flooded swampy terrain made tracking difficult. Canine tracking efforts were ended at approximately 2 A.M. however, law enforcement maintained a vigilant presence in the area.

On Friday at approximately 8:30 A.M., deputies returned to the residence and upon doing so located Severin inside of a vehicle belonging to the homeowner, which was parked on the property. Severin was subsequently taken into custody without incident and transported to St. Louis County jail in Duluth. This incident remains under investigation.

St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public for their efforts in assisting with locating Severin.
