Incident Summary:
On 04/20/2022 at approximately 0442 hours, St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies along with police officers from Hibbing, Chisholm, Virginia, and the Minnesota State Patrol were actively searching for a known suspect and vehicle that were wanted in connection with a recent felony level crime in Morrison County, Minnesota. The suspect was believed to be in the Hibbing or Chisholm area.
A St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputy located the vehicle unoccupied at approximately 0715, in the City of Chisholm. Officers then responded to the 200 block of Central Avenue South in Chisholm. Contact was made with the suspect and an officer involved shooting occurred.
Life saving efforts were performed by officers on the scene along with Chisholm Ambulance personnel and Hibbing ALS personnel. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
Involved officers and the subject's name are being withheld at this time. The incident is being investigated by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). The BCA will determine if squad and body cameras captured the incident.
