Incident Summary: 

Area first responders and law enforcement respond to the report of a single vehicle personal injury accident located in the 1900 block of Highway 21 North. in Morse Township. Upon the arrival of first responders, it was determined that the vehicle contained one occupant, the driver identified as a 74-year-old male Babbitt resident, who was later pronounced deceased on scene.

Slippery road conditions are being considered as a contributor factor to the accident which remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

Assisting agencies: Ely Police, Fire and EMS, Babbitt Police, Morse-Fall Lake Fire Dept. and First Responders, Minnesota State Patrol, Lake County Sheriffs Office and Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

UPDATE**UPDATE**UPDATE: 

The male driver who died as a result of this accident has been identified as George J. Amitrano of Babbitt, MN. 

Amitrano was travelling Southbound on County Rd. 21 near the Sotlich Rd. in Morse Township when his vehicle, a 2003 GMC Sierra pickup, reportedly lost control, entered the ditch and rolled over.  He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
