Incident Summary: On September 21, 2021, at approximately 6:18 P.M. the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with the MN State Patrol, Makinen Fire Department, Lakeland First Responders, Virginia Ambulance, Eveleth Ambulance, and Like Link Air Medical were dispatched to a single vehicle injury accident at the intersection of Townline Rd. and Long Lake Rd. in Makinen, MN in unorganized township 56-16. A passerby called into 911 reporting a semi tractor-trailer had rolled at the intersection. The lone male driver was identified as Wayne Robbins and was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The investigation determined the semi tractor-trailer, a fully loaded logging truck, was westbound on Townline Rd. at the intersection of Long Lake Rd. Robbins failed to negotiate a sweeping left hand curve in the roadway. The semi truck entered the West ditch and overturned. Robbins was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was partially ejected from the vehicle. The accident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office with assistance by the MN State Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit and the Midwest Medical Examiners Office.
