Incident Summary: 

On February 23rd the St. Louis County Sheriff's and Rice Lake Fire Department First Responders were called to a motor vehicle crash on Arnold Rd.  Initial information stated a white SUV had struck an elderly female who had been a pedestrian.

She was subsequently transported by ambulance to the hospital with a life threatening head injury.

The male driver of the SUV had fled the scene on foot, prior to law enforcement arrival.  However, he was located and arrested a short distance away.  He is currently being processed for driving under the influence and criminal vehicular operation.

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the Sheriff's Office in this investigation.  Names of the involved will be released tomorrow (after family has been notified).  

Deputies are still on scene at this time. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Rescue Squad is also assisting with traffic control.

Additional Information or Update:

Virginia E. Berger, 68 years old, of Rice Lake, is identified as the victim in this incident. She remains hospitalized in stable condition with serious injuries.

Kyle Bryon Lindquist, 33 years old, formerly of WI (currently living in Rice Lake) was arrested for criminal vehicular operation. 

Lindquist was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
