Improvements planned for Morris Thomas Road; virtual meeting set for February 25
St. Louis County Public Works and the City of Duluth are working together on a project to reconstruct Morris Thomas Road (County State Aid Highway 56) between Haines Road and Piedmont Avenue. The work is needed due to aging underground utilities and deteriorating pavement, curbs and gutters.
The public is invited to learn more about what is being planned through a virtual meeting on Thursday, February 25, at 6 p.m. Information on how to join the meeting, along with additional details about the project, can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/morris-thomas. The web page also includes a "comment map", which allows citizens to post ideas or feedback about the project.
The project is scheduled to begin in 2022 and is expected to span two construction seasons. The City of Duluth will be in charge of utility replacements in 2022, followed by the County reconstructing the road in 2023. Morris Thomas will be closed to all through traffic during both construction seasons.
The virtual meeting will include details on the project's proposed design, construction impacts, and schedule. Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting but would like more information can contact Steve Krasaway, St. Louis County Resident Engineer, at (218) 625-3841 or email krasaways@stlouiscountymn.gov.
