Error corrected in vote tallies in two St. Louis County precincts

The St. Louis County Auditor's Office, as part of its standard process to review and verify votes county wide, has found and corrected errors that impacted the unofficial results from two precincts. This affected the vote totals initially reported to the Minnesota Secretary of State, including the Minnesota House District 6A race between Representative Julie Sandstede and Robert Farnsworth. The election results have been corrected and updated on the Secretary of State's website.

The errors involved the recording of voting results received from two precincts: one in Toivola and one in Hibbing. A clerical error resulted in the votes cast on election day in Toivola being recorded incorrectly. Additionally, an issue with the process of uploading the results from one polling location in Hibbing led to duplicate counts.

"Anytime there is an error it is unfortunate," said St. Louis County Auditor Nancy Nilsen, "but this is exactly why we have an audit system in place, to ensure the accuracy of results and integrity of the system, and why we say vote totals are not official until certified."

The Auditor's Office continues to review the results from Tuesday's election in preparation for certification of election results by the canvassing board on November 13.
