St. Louis County Assessor announces details for fall appraisals
Staff from the St. Louis County Assessor’s Department will be conducting field inspections to review and document new construction work beginning next month. As has been the case throughout the summer, staff will not go inside any buildings due to COVID-19 precautions.
However, due to the nature of these assessments and to ensure accuracy, staff now will likely need to make a physical inspection on foot in order to view any new construction and to grade and measure any new structures. Assessments conducted earlier in the year were done with staff never leaving their vehicle.
If assessment staff believe it is necessary to view a property that has changed, the standard guidelines for inspecting property will be followed. Additionally, social distancing guidelines will be followed at all times, and masks will be worn.
These visits are part of the 2021 assessment, for taxes payable in 2022. These appraisals ensure that property data is accurate and will assist the assessor in estimating a fair and equitable market value of each property for tax purposes. Notices of valuation and classification will be mailed to taxpayers in the spring of 2021.
Anyone with questions or concerns about their property's assessment is encouraged to contact their closest Assessor's Office: Duluth, 218-726-2304; Virginia, 218-749-7147; Ely, 218-365-8236; Cook, 218-471-7220 or Hibbing, 218-262-6089.
