Incident Summary:

On 10/17/20 the St. Louis County Sheriff's office received a call from an Ely area outfitter that had received an SOS device activation from one of its clients that had been dropped off earlier in the day and was canoeing solo into Nina-Moose Lake off of the Echo Trail. The male client had activated his SOS device and stated "Help Wet and Cold". The St. Louis County Rescue Squad was called into search and locate the male client. After a short search the party was located wet and cold near his last known location. The party was treated for exposure and then was evacuated out of the area by rescue squad personnel. No injuries were reported and the male party was in good health upon return to the landing.

The Sheriff's office would like to remind all who venture into the BWCA to prepare for all conditions, do not take any unnecessary risks, leave an itinerary of your travel plan, and travel with a GPS or SOS device if possible in case of emergencies.
