Incident Summary: On September 19th, 2020, at approximately 7:30 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Eveleth Police Department K9, and MN State Patrol Airwing Unit responded to a report of a lost person on the Whiteface Truck Trail South of Vermilion Trail (HWY 4) in Makinen, MN in Unorganized Township 55-15 near the Whiteface Reservoir. St. Louis County dispatch received a 911 call from a family member reporting Sanders as a lost person. At approximately 5:30 PM, Sanders had been riding an ATV with a large group of riders, when he reportedly walked away from his ATV and into the woods. Members of the group searched for him, but were unsuccessful in locating him. Rescue Squad personnel conducted a woods search for Sanders in the vicinity of his ATV. Sanders was found uninjured by Rescue Squad personnel, at approximately 10:50 PM, walking on a logging road approximately 4.5 miles due East of where he had left his ATV. Sanders was transported home to his family.
