Early voting for November election begins today, September 18
The early voting period for this November's election begins today, September 18. People wishing to vote early in person can do so at their designated early voting location. For anyone living in a city, the early voting location is likely their city hall. Township and unorganized township residents can vote at the County Auditor's Office. A list of locations where people can vote early in person can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/vote.
Due to COVID precautions, many buildings are closed to public access or offer limited hours, so people should call first to learn special voting instructions. Anyone voting at the St. Louis County Auditor's Office - at the Courthouse in Duluth or the Government Services Center in Virginia - should call ahead for information on curbside voting. For Duluth, call 218-726-2385; for Virginia, call 218-749-7104. People also can email elections@stlouiscountymn.gov.
For anyone who has requested an absentee ballot by mail, the Auditor's Office will begin processing those requests on Sept. 18, and all should be sent out by the end of the month. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 3 and received by November 10 in order to be counted. The Auditor's Office encourages anyone voting by mail to send their ballot in early to avoid any last minute problems. Absentee ballots can also be dropped off in the secure drop boxes outside the St. Louis County Courthouse in Duluth and the Government Services Center in Virginia.
People wishing to request an absentee ballot by mail can find links to apply at stlouiscountymn.gov/vote. Ballots will automatically be mailed to anyone living in a precinct that votes solely by mail, who is currently registered to vote. Anyone in these precincts who has moved since the last election will need to request an absentee ballot be sent to them.
