Incident Summary: On July 4th, 2020 Saint Louis County Sheriff's deputies responded to 3 water emergency calls.
#1. At approximately Noon deputies responded to Bassett Lake in Bassett Township for a 47 year old male who was injured by a tow rope while water tubing behind a boat. The male was transported by private vehicle to a Duluth area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
#2. At approximately 1:30 P.M. A 65 year old male was found unresponsive in the water in Bear Island Lake near Babbitt after attempting to swim after a floating object that was in the water. CPR was performed on the male by several people who were on scene. The male was transported by the Babbitt Ambulance to the Ely-Bloomenson hospital at which time he was conscious and alert. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Babbitt Police Department.
#3. At approximately 2:00 P.M. A 69 year old male was observed unresponsive in Pelican Lake in Orr after he jumped off a pontoon boat to swim. CPR was performed on him by others that had been on the pontoon boat with him. The male was conscious and alert upon first responders arrival and was transported by the Orr Ambulance to the Cook Hospital. The Minnesota DNR and Virginia Ambulance service also assisted.
