St. Louis County seeks volunteers to serve on mental health advisory council
St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services is looking for volunteers to provide input on local mental health services for children and adults. The county is forming two Local Mental Health Advisory Councils - one for the northern part of the county, and the other for the southern part. Each group will meet in their own part of the county.
A Local Advisory Council (LAC) is intended to bring together diverse perspectives on mental health in order to identify resources, changes, additions and improvements to local mental health services for children and adults. Gathering community members to discuss issues related to mental health services will help identify new and creative ideas.
In order to be effective in this important work, the LAC needs to meet throughout the year and be very intentional about including diverse perspectives and voices, especially those with lived experience. The first meeting will be held in October 2020 with approximately nine meetings to be held throughout the year.
Those who are invited to join the St. Louis County Local Advisory Council will be asked to commit to fostering an environment that is focused on the values of hope, prevention, wisdom, recovery, dignity and inclusion.
More information, and an online application form, is available online at stlouiscountymn.gov/mentalhealth. Applications must be submitted by June 30. All applications will be reviewed by a team, including persons with lived experience with mental illness. The review will be completed in July and you will be notified no later than August 14 of the decision.
