New online application available for interested prospective foster parents
May is National Foster Care Appreciation Month, and St. Louis County has just launched an online application option to make it easier for people interested in serving as foster parents to get started.
The online application can be accessed through the county's website at stlouiscountymn.gov/childfostercare. Once a person registers and completes the initial forms, a St. Louis County Child Foster Care Licensor will be assigned to work with the applicant through the remaining steps, which include a background study, home study and training.
"We are always looking for individuals and families who are willing to welcome in children in need of out-of-home placement," said David Schunk, St. Louis County Social Services Supervisor, "and so we want to make it as easy as possible for interested people to get started. We ask a lot of our foster families, and this is one way we can make it a little easier for them."
"We are so appreciative of the foster families in our county and the incredible service they provide," added Jennifer Fick, St. Louis County Social Worker. "They provide a safe, stable and nurturing environment to kids when they need it most. It's not an easy role, but it's a rewarding one, and it makes an incredible difference in the lives of kids."
Foster families are needed in both the northern and southern parts of the county, to provide a temporary home for children until they can be safely reunited with their family. To learn more, visit stlouiscountymn.gov/childfostercare.
