Construction resumes next week on Woodland Avenue/Calvary Road

Work resumes next week on the next phase of the two-year project to reconstruct portions of Woodland Avenue and Calvary Road in Duluth.

Starting next week, work will begin on Woodland Avenue to finish placing the concrete sidewalks and sod. No road closures are expected for this work, though people may encounter delays when traveling through the construction site; and, of course, are reminded to slow down and use extra caution anytime when traveling through a work zone.

Beginning the week of May 11, Calvary Road will be closed from Woodland Avenue to just west of North Shore Bank. Access to Denny’s Ace Hardware and North Shore Bank will be available at all times, but will only be allowed from Woodland Avenue via a temporary access road. This road closure is anticipated to last until mid-June, but spring weather and the unknowns of impacts caused by COVID-19 may change this.

.
In early June, work will begin on Calvary Road between North Shore Bank and Arnold Road, and later in the summer will shift to Calvary Road between Arnold Road and Howard Gnesen Road.

The total estimated cost of the project is $11.5 million. In 2019, St. Louis County reconstructed Woodland Avenue between Anoka Street and Calvary Road, while the City of Duluth installed new water and sewer lines beneath the street. The project also includes  sidewalks and bike lanes, improved lighting and other safety improvements. Ulland Brothers is the contractor.
