Incident Summary:

On 04/27/2020 at 1457 hrs. St. Louis County 911 received a report of a small craft in distress on Lake Superior. The operators of the 22-foot boat informed dispatchers they were approximately 1/2 mile south of the aerial lift bridge, they were taking on water, and their main engine was disabled. Two adults, one child and one dog were onboard.

The US Coast Guard, Duluth Fire Department, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Duluth Police Department, and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. A Coast Guard vessel made contact with the watercraft in distress and towed the watercraft to Rice's Point Landing. The occupants of the watercraft were all fine and in good spirits. It is believed the watercraft struck some sort of submerged debris just off Rice's Landing, causing seals around the lower unit to breach and allow water to enter the hull.
