Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 13-17

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the range of plans and adaptations families are making to stay safely at home, comes the reminder of something else for which everyone needs to prepare.

April 13-17 is Severe Weather Awareness Week. People are encouraged to take some time to make sure they have a plan and necessary supplies in the event our area experiences severe weather. This includes for a range of weather events, such as severe thunderstorms, straight line winds, flooding and tornadoes.

St. Louis County and the National Weather Service will not be setting off tornado sirens as part of this awareness week. However, people are still encouraged to talk with their families and make sure everyone knows where to go for the safest place to take shelter during severe weather.

More information about how to prepare, including checklists for homes and businesses, can be found online through the state's Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division at mn.dps.gov.
