Incident Summary: On 3/04/2020 at around 11:49 AM, the St, Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a snowmobile crash in Lavell Township in a field off of Hwy 5 and Silica Road. 3 snowmobiles were following each other when the first sled being operated by Lessar saw he was coming up to a small ravine. He hit his brakes to avoid it and fell off of his sled, sustaining minor injuries. The second sled being operated by Mortenson went over the small ravine and struck a snow bank on the other side. He was thrown from his sled and sustained minor lacerations to his head. The third snowmobile being operated by Nelson was able to stop without incident. Both Lessar and Mortenson were treated by Hibbing Ambulance at the scene and released. None of the parties were wearing helmets. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
