Incident Summary:

At approximately 0725 hours today, St. Louis County Deputies responded to a garage fire at 4140 Fayre Road in the City of Rice Lake.  Initially, a smell of smoke in the area of Howard Gnesen Road and West Calvary Road was called in by a passing motorist.  Rice Lake Fire Department personnel then checked the area and located a garage fire at 4140 Fayre Road, just a short distance away.  The home owner, Steve Zomerfelt, was inside his home sleeping at the time the fire department discovered the fire.

Rice Lake Fire Department, Gnesen Fire Department, and the Air National Guard Fire Department all responded to the fire.  The garage and several vehicles were a total loss.  There was no one inside the garage at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it is believed to have been caused by a wood burning stove.
