Woodland Avenue project complete for the year, will resume in 2020
Woodland Avenue has re-opened and bus routes have returned to normal following more than five months of construction. The two-year project to reconstruct portions of Woodland Avenue and Calvary Road in Duluth has reached the half-way point.
So far, the City of Duluth has installed new water and sewer lines beneath the street, and St. Louis County has reconstructed Woodland Avenue between Anoka Street and Calvary Road.
Next year, the project focus shifts to Calvary Road and several connecting streets. Also still to be completed in 2020 are the sidewalks and other finishing details along Woodland Avenue.
Among the traffic impacts next year:
- Calvary Road between Woodland Avenue and Arnold Road will be closed for much of the 2020 construction season. Calvary Road will be open between Howard Gnesen and Arnold Road.
- First Avenue will be closed between Calvary Road and Martin Road.
- Arnold Road between Calvary Road and Martin Road may see closures.
- Woodland Avenue is expected to remain open.
- Drake Road is expected to remain open.
The total estimated cost of the project is $11.5 million, and includes reconstruction of more than a mile of road, new utilities, sidewalks and bike lanes, improved lighting and other safety improvements. Ulland Brothers is the contractor.
