Incident Summary:
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a complaint of Criminal Damage to Property at the South Ridge School in New Independence Township.
On 10/23/2019 at 12:58, deputies were dispatched to the school gymnasium to investigate suspicions that a window had been shot at.
The investigation revealed the damage was the result of a shotgun being discharged at the window from the direction of Swan Lake Road. The damage occurred sometime in the preceding 24 hours and likely outside of school hours.
The school was locked down while the incident was investigated. At no time, were students or staff in danger.
The incident is still under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anybody with information regarding recent sounds of shots or suspicious activities near the school, to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (218)336-4350.

Today, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Faith Lutheran Church located on the 5700 block of Hwy 7 in Culver Township. Yesterday, they observed damage that had been done to the church. A shotgun appears to have been used to shoot windows out at the church as well as siding and the church sign itself. Damage exceeds $1000. This damage appears to coincide with the timing of the damage at South Ridge School.
The South Ridge School is just a few miles from the church.
The likely timeframe for both, clearly intentional, incidents of damage would have been outside of school hours sometime in the afternoon/evening of Tuesday, October 22nd to the early morning of Wednesday, October 23rd.
