Construction begins Monday at intersection of Highway 53, Ugstad Road and Lavaque Bypass

Construction of a series of improvements at the intersection of Trunk Highway 53, Ugstad Road and Lavaque Bypass will cause road and lane closures beginning Monday, August 19. Both Ugstad Road and Lavaque Bypass will be closed at Highway 53. Additionally there will be lane closures on Highway 53. The closures are expected to last until mid-September.

The project includes the replacement of traffic signals at the intersection, plus the addition of turn lanes on Ugstad Road and Lavaque Bypass. A new sidewalk also will be added along Lavaque Bypass. The improvements are a joint project of St. Louis County, the City of Hermantown, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Detour signs will be posted directing traffic on Lavaque Bypass to use Martin Road and Midway Road. Ugstad Road will be detoured on Arrowhead Road and Lavaque Road.

Total cost of the project is $900,000. KGM is the Contractor.
