MN Sheriffs' Association announces scholarship opportunity for law enforcement students
The Minnesota Sheriffs' Association (MSA) is again offering scholarships to law enforcement students, and St. Louis County Sheriff Ross Litman encourages students in this area to apply. The MSA Board of Directors will award up to 15 scholarships worth $600 each to students across the state who are seeking careers in law enforcement. These scholarships are due to the coordinated efforts of the 87 Sheriffs of the State of Minnesota.
“The Board of Directors feel peace officers in our democratic society have complex duties to perform,” said Sheriff Litman. "We recognize the importance of pre-entry training for people considering law enforcement as their career choice, and that some students need outside to meet the costs of such training, even though they excel academically."
To qualify, students must be enrolled in one of the following: a mandated Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) sills program, the second year of a two-year law enforcement program or the third or fourth year of a four-year criminal justice program.
The Scholarship Committee, in making its selection of awards, intends on achieving representation from all geographical areas of the state. Eight law enforcement students from St. Louis County, including two last year, have been awarded this scholarship since 2013.
Application forms and a statement of procedures are available at the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, or online at www.mnsheriffs.org. The deadline to apply is October 18, and awards will be announced by the end of the year.
