Repaving and other improvements on Maple Grove Road begin Monday

The next phase of work on improvements on Maple Grove Road in Hermantown begins July 15. Previously, the City of Hermantown had been installing new sanitary sewer lines. On Monday, St. Louis County Public Works will begin its portion of the project, which includes repaving Maple Grove Road between Midway Road and Westberg Road, and adding new curbs and gutters, and sidewalk.

Initial work will be between Lavaque Road and Westberg Road. Maple Grove Road will remain open at all times, however motorists should expect delays. By July 25 through late August, this portion of Maple Grove Road will be gravel as work continues. The entire project is expected to be complete by early November.

In addition to the road and safety improvements for motorists, the project also includes improved access and accommodations for pedestrians, including a new eight-foot wide sidewalk on the south side of Maple Grove Road between Stebner Park and Stebner Road, and a wider sidewalk on the north side of Maple Grove Road.

Total cost of the improvements is $4.5 million, and Ulland Brothers is the contractor. To learn more about this or any other St. Louis County road construction project, or to sign up for email updates, visit stlouiscountymn.gov/construction.
