Construction on Woodland Avenue in Duluth to begin May 20
A two-year project to reconstruct a mile of Woodland Avenue and Calvary Road is scheduled to begin Monday, May 20, and with it will come road closures and detours for motorists, including buses.
Initial work will focus on Woodland Avenue between Anoka Street and Red Wing Street.By mid-July, work will expand north to the intersection with Calvary Road, and west on Calvary Road.
Detour routes and DTA bus stops will be clearly marked. Signs also will be posted to direct traffic to local businesses. Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the project.
The project is being done in partnership with the City of Duluth. The City will be installing new water and sewer lines, with the County then reconstructing the road. The reconstruction will include new sidewalks and bike lanes, improved lighting and other safety improvements.
Construction this year is expected to last through October. The total estimated cost of the project is $11.5 million. Ulland Brothers is the contractor.
