Incident Summary:

At approximately 1600 hours today, St. Louis County Deputies were dispatched to a truck versus ATV accident in the 9100 block of Swan Lake Road in Alborn Township.  Upon arrival, deputies found a 57 year old Alborn man was plowing snow with his ATV and drove into Swan Lake Road, not paying attention to approaching traffic.  The ATV was struck by a truck driven by a 26 year old man from Alborn.  The investigation showed the driver of the truck tried to avoid the collision by steering into the ditch.  When the truck hit the snowbank, the collision with the snowbank caused the truck to spin down the road, into the ATV.  The operator of the ATV sustained serious injuries and was transported to Essentia Hospital in Duluth by Meadowlands Ambulance. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The Alborn Fire Department and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.

The contributing factor appears to be inattentive driving.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to pay attention to your surroundings when operating any machinery and to provide yourself with extra time during inclement weather.
