Incident Summary:
On January 25th, 2019 at approximately 10:45 P.M. a passing motorist reported seeing a structure fire off of Hwy 169 in Morse Township. Saint Louis County deputies along with Ely Police Department officers responded and located the fire at 2519 Highway 169. Upon arrival the structure which was a mobile home was completely engulfed in flames. The mobile home was destroyed by the fire. At the time of the fire it was not known if the home had been occupied and there was no contact made with any occupants or the owner of the property.
On January 26th, 2019 at approximately 10:15 A.M. the owner Leonard MORELAND arrived at the Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital with burn related injuries from the fire. Moreland was then transported to a Duluth area Hospital. The extent of his injuries are unknown.
The Morse Township and Ely Fire Departments assisted.
The fire is being investigated by the Saint Louis County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office.
