Incident Summary:
On 11/4/2018 at approximately 1257 hours, St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies along with Ellsburg Township Fire Department and First Responders, responded to a fully engulfed structure fire at 4956 Comstock Lake Road, Cotton, MN. Prior to law enforcement arriving, a second call came in on the 4900 block of Comstock Lake Road, stating that the male who had started the structure fire was having a verbal argument with his parents.
When the first Deputy arrived, the male physically assaulted the Deputy. The Deputy used a Taser and Pepper Spray to assist in arresting the male. The male was transported to Virginia Regional Medical Center and then was booked into the Virginia Jail for Felony Assault on a Peace Officer and Arson in the First Degree. The Deputy was treated at VRMC for injuries sustained during the assault and released. This investigation is ongoing.
The Minnesota State Patrol, Virginia Police Department, Minnesota DNR Fire Department, and Minnesota State Fire Marshall's Office assisted with this incident.

The suspect has been identified as Wade R. Johnson of Cotton, MN.
The residence of 4956 Comstock Lake Road is a neighbor's address and not the residence where Wade R. Johnson was residing. This investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time pending formal charges.
