St. Louis County Board to issue proclamation for military members who've earned Purple Heart

The Purple Heart is a combat award given, in the name of the President, to those members of the armed forces who are wounded in action. The honor is also presented posthumously to the family of a military member killed in action. St. Louis County is home to 31 people affiliated with the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and there are likely other veterans here who have earned the award.

St. Louis County Commissioners and Veterans Service Officers will be honoring Purple Heart recipients at a short reception on November 13, at 9 a.m. in the County Board Conference Room on the second floor of the Courthouse in Duluth. Invitations have been sent to those affiliated with the Military Order of the Purple Heart, but any other veterans in the county who've earned the honor are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Immediately following, during the County Board meeting at 9:30 a.m., the Board will issue a proclamation in honor of the courage and sacrifices made by members of the country's armed forces and those who've earned a Purple Heart.

Representatives from the Military Order of the Purple Heart will also attend the Board meeting, presenting the county with signs that can be posted along county roads as tribute to Purple Heart recipients.

St. Louis County is home to more than 18,000 veterans, one of the largest veteran populations in the state.
