Tax forfeited land auction results: 28 properties sold for $429,585

A waterfront lot on Ely's Shagawa lake was the top seller at today's St. Louis County Tax Forfeited Properties Auction. A 40-acre parcel in Rice Lake and a 34-acre parcel in Hibbing also successfully sold. In all, 28 properties were purchased for a total of $429,585.

Today's sale featured 95 tax forfeited properties, including homes, buildable lots, and recreational land. All parcels not purchased at the auction are now available for sale on a first come, first served basis through the St. Louis County Land and Minerals Department. Auction results, as well as a listing of available properties, can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/landsales.

Three more auctions are expected next year, including one in February, though dates have not yet been finalized.

Within St. Louis County there are nearly 900,000 acres of tax forfeited land, which the County's Land and Minerals Department is responsible for managing. Most of the land is maintained for forest management, however, the County has been trying to sell parcels that are not planned for management as a way to encourage development and increase the property tax base.
