Incident Summary:
On October 7th 2018 at approximately 02:17 A.M., St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies, Biwabik Ambulance / First Responders, Lakeland Fire / First Responders, and Virginia Ambulance were dispatched to a one vehicle crash with injuries on Vermilion Trail, just south of the intersection of Ajax Rd.
Upon arrival, first responders found a pickup truck on its roof in the east ditch of Vermilion Trail, with a lone male occupant inside. Despite efforts of first responders, the 25 yr old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle was traveling South on Vermilion Trail and had lost control of the truck near the intersection with Ajax Rd. The truck then skidded off the roadway where it rolled into the ditch, coming to rest on its roof.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, but alcohol and speed appear to be factors. The roads were wet at the time of the crash, and the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The victims name is being withheld pending notification of family.
