Public Hearing on Comprehensive Land Use Plan draft is October 18

Work on the new St. Louis County comprehensive land use plan has reached the point of public review and feedback on the proposed draft plan. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 18, at 9 a.m. in the St. Louis County Public Works building's lower level training center, 7823 Highway 135 in Virginia.

The purpose of the hearing is to gather comments on the proposed draft plan. The plan document can be viewed on the plan website:  http://planslcmn.com or in person at the county's Planning and Community Departments in Duluth - 320 W 2nd Street, Suite 301, Government Services Center; or Virginia - 307 First Street South, Suite 117, Northland Office Center,

St. Louis County has been working with SRF Consulting Group, Inc. over the past two years to prepare a comprehensive land use plan for all areas of county zoning jurisdiction. The plan excludes cities, towns with their own zoning, and state and federal lands. The comprehensive land use plan will provide the blueprint for land use development and change through 2035.

Throughout the development of the plan, input was solicited from the general public, focus groups and various agencies. The plan includes an executive summary, goals and objectives for future land uses as well as implementation items to carry out the goals and objectives and future land use maps. The draft is now complete and the County is seeking public input on the document.

Anyone interested in commenting on the draft plan but is unable to attend the public hearing, can send written feedback to: Mary Anderson, Planning Manager, St. Louis County Planning and Community Development, 307 First Street South, Northland Office Center, Suite 117, Virginia, MN 55792; or email andersonm3@stlouiscountymn.govComments are due by October 16, 2018.
