Incident Summary: On September 6th, 2018, at approximately 7:53 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with Crane Lake 1st Responders, Orr Fire and Ambulance Service, and Life Link Air Medical Service responded to Handberg's Marine at 7123 Handberg Rd. in Crane Lake, MN for a boat accident with injuries. A 73 year old Cook male was operating his boat along with a 79 year old Cook female passenger in the Vermilion River Gorge on Crane Lake, when their boat struck a submerged log causing the female to be thrown into the water. The male entered the water and was eventually able to get both of them back into the boat. They were able to drive themselves to Handberg's Marine where they met with medical personnel. The male was transported by Orr Ambulance to the Cook Hospital for hypothermia and minor injuries. The female was transported by Life Link Air Medical to a Duluth hospital also for hypothermia and minor injuries. The names of both parties are being withheld pending family notifications. Neither party were wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident. The accident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
