U.S. Department of Homeland Security "Blue Campaign" to hear about local efforts to stop human trafficking
St. Louis County Commissioner Beth Olson will host a round table discussion Tuesday involving the head of the Blue Campaign from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as well as local agency leaders working to stop human trafficking in this region.
The meeting will take place Tuesday morning in the County Board Conference Room. Mick McKeown, executive director of DHS's Blue Campaign, will join video videoconference. The media is invited to a news conference immediately following at noon in the County Board Room on the second floor of the Courthouse in Duluth. Participants in the news conference will include Commissioner Olson, and Sara Niemi, executive director of PAVSA.
The Blue Campaign is the name given to the Department of Homeland Security's efforts to raise awareness about human trafficking, as well as its work with law enforcement, government, non-government and private organizations to protect people who have been trafficked, and to bring suspected traffickers to justice.
Tuesday's meeting comes as a result of discussions held earlier this summer when U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, who chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security, visited St. Louis County to learn more about security issues related to the Port of Duluth/Superior.
