Incident Summary:
On 07/08/2018, The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a water emergency of two females that had swamped their kayaks and were stranded in a swampy area on the Cloquet River, between the Independence rest area, and the Highway 8 bridge. St. Louis County Volunteer Sheriff's Rescue Squad launched a small boat and located the two females suffering only minor hypothermia. With the assistance of shore crews the ladies were safely brought to shore and checked by EMS. Their two kayaks were unable to be recovered due to heavy rains, lightning and thunder in the immediate area.
