Spring road restrictions to end May 16-17 on St. Louis County roads

Spring load restrictions, which have been in place since late March, will be lifted next week. For the North-Central Frost Zone, restrictions will be lifted Wednesday, May 16. Meanwhile, restrictions for the North Zone, which covers the vast majority of St. Louis County, will end the following day, Thursday, May 17. Certain roads may continue to have load limits based on their particular condition. Signs will clearly mark those roads.

The North-Central Zone includes the area south of US Highway 2 and west of State Highway 33 in the far southwest corner of the county. The North Zone includes almost all of St. Louis County, from north of US Highway 2 and east of State Highway 33. Information on zone boundaries can be found on the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) website at mndot.gov/loadlimits.

The ending dates for spring load restrictions vary each year based on how weather is affecting roadway strength. These dates are established by monitoring roadway strength as weather conditions change.
