On April 23, 2018, at approximately 1:55 P.M., St.
Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a water emergency on Prairie
Lake. The caller reported a male fell through the ice on Prairie
Lake. The caller said the male was out on the lake on an UTV, and went
through the ice into the water. After first responders arrived they learned there were two victims. Both
victims were rescued from ice. 61 years old M. Schulke
sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a local Duluth
hospital. Deputies and EMS staff attempted lifesaving efforts, but 82
years old W. Schulke was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the
accident is the result of unsafe ice conditions on Prairie Lake. The
Sheriff Office would like to remind the public of the unsafe ice conditions,
due to resent warm temperatures.
