Workshop planned on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for children with autism
Among the challenges faced by parents and caregivers of children with autism is ensuring the student is receiving specialized education and accommodations to help learn. A workshop this week will help parents better understand their child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan. The session will be Wednesday, February 28, 5:30-7 p.m. at DRCC, 5629 Grand Avenue in Duluth.
Led by Meredith Kujala of Arc Northland, the session also will answer questions for parents who may want to change their child's IEP or 504 plan, or wonder if everything in their child's plan is actually being done. Parents of children who don't currently have a specialized plan but may need one are also encouraged to attend.
The workshop is the latest in a series offered by St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services, thanks to a grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
A light dinner is included with the presentation, and childcare will be provided. Advance registration is recommended by calling Laura Birnbaum at 218-726-2492 or email birnbauml@stlouiscountymn.gov.
