Incident Summary:
On January, 31st 2018 The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the call of a motor vehicle accident with injuries in Gnesen Township. Once on scene St. Louis County Deputies and first responders located a small passenger car that sustained major damage, as well as a semi tuck that was involved in the crash. A 4 year old male was located in the passenger car, still belted in. The 4 year old had to be extricated and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. He is currently in critical condition at Essentia St. Mary's in Duluth. A 33 year old female was also found near the crash site. It was determined that she was the driver of the passenger car. The female was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears that the female driver of the passenger car crossed the center line while traveling on Normanna Rd. This caused a head on collision with a Semi Truck that was carrying a load of timber. The crash is still under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
