Duluth woman wins scholarship from MN Sheriffs Association
Molly Martinson of Duluth is one of 13 law enforcement students across Minnesota to receive a $600 scholarship from the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association (MSA). St. Louis County Sheriff Ross Litman presented Martinson with a check on behalf of the MSA.
Martinson is a student in Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College’s Law Enforcement Skills Program. She already holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Bemidji State University.
Five law enforcement students from St. Louis County have won similar scholarships in recent years. However, Sheriff Litman was particularly proud to be able to present a check to Martinson because she already works for St. Louis County as a 911 emergency communications specialist. She also is interning in the Sheriff’s Office. She hopes to one day work as a sheriff's deputy.
"Law enforcement is a difficult career, but it's also a very rewarding one, I believe, so I'm happy the MSA continues to support the young men and women who choose this profession" said Litman. "Through her work at 911, Molly has already proven she can work well under pressure, so I'm very happy to hear her ultimate goal is to work as a deputy. Recruiting women to this role continues to be a challenge and a focus for us."
The MSA awards scholarships each year to law enforcement students to assist with training and education expenses. This year’s recipients represent a broad spectrum of applicants, and were chosen based on qualifications and academic excellence that reflect the dedication and pride of those choosing to enter the difficult but rewarding profession of law enforcement and public service. Additional information about the award and the MSA can be found online at mnsheriffs.org.
Serving more than 200,000 people living within St. Louis County’s 7,000 square miles, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office operates out of regional offices in Duluth, Virginia and Hibbing, with additional stations in Ely, Mountain Iron and Aurora.
