Commissioner Keith Nelson named Board Chair  for 2018 

St. Louis County commissioners today selected Commissioner Keith Nelson to serve as County Board Chair for 2018. Commissioner Patrick Boyle was selected Vice Chair.

Nelson is currently in his fourth term as a commissioner, having served since 2003. He represents the Sixth District, which is the south-central portion of the County and includes Mt. Iron, the Quad Cities and as far south as Industrial and Grand Lake Townships. This is Nelson's third term as Board Chair, having previously served in 2006 and 2012.

Nelson then assigned commissioners to chair the following standing committees of the Board:

Finance and Budget – Pete Stauber

Health and Human Services – Patrick Boyle

Environment and Natural Resources – Tom Rukavina

Public Works and Transportation – Mike Jugovich

Central Management and Intergovernmental – Frank Jewell

Public Safety and Corrections – Beth Olson

Additionally, Nelson created two subcommittees to address ongoing areas of focus for the Board. The new Finance and Budget subcommittee will include commissioners Pete Stauber, Keith Nelson and Beth Olson. The Depot subcommittee will include commissioners Patrick Boyle, Mike Jugovich and Frank Jewell. Nelson has asked the Depot subcommittee to make recommendations by the end of March regarding ongoing funding levels for the Historical Society, which includes Veterans Memorial Hall.

Commissioners also approved their meeting schedule for 2018. Consistent with the Board’s ongoing efforts to provide easier access to meetings for all citizens of St. Louis County, at least one meeting each month will be held in locations around the county, outside of Duluth. The 2018 schedule can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/boardschedule.
