Incident Summary:

St. Louis County Deputies were dispatched to a report of a pickup truck overturned and partially submerged in a stream located near the intersection of Swan Lake Road and the Richardson Road in Alborn Township.  The reporting party had come upon the overturned vehicle and was unable to determine if the vehicle was occupied.

While deputies were in route to the scene, a cabin owner called 911 to notify dispatch that  the driver of the vehicle was in their cabin approximately a mile from the scene.  First responders and Meadowlands Ambulance responded to the cabin.  The driver was identified as Steven Morterud, who was able to escape the vehicle after going off road and overturning in the stream.  Morterud ran to cabins, eventually finding one that was occupied.  Morterud was transported by Meadowlands Ambulance to Essentia St. Mary's in Duluth for precautionary measures due to exposure and possible hypothermia.

Speed and slippery roadways are believed to be the main contributing factors or the accident.
