County Board schedules two public meetings to get input on budget

The St. Louis County Board will hold two public meetings to receive comments on its 2018 proposed tax levy and operating budget. The first meeting is this Thursday, November 30, at 7 p.m. in the Virginia Courthouse, lower level conference room. The second meeting will be Thursday, December 7, at 7 p.m. in the County Board Room on the second floor of the Duluth Courthouse.

The meetings will include a presentation about the budget and levy, and an opportunity for people to address the Board with questions or comments. Individuals also can meet one-on-one with staff from the Auditor's Office for questions specific to their proposed property tax statement.

The County Board in September set the maximum levy at $132.2 million. It's a 4.45 percent increase from this year, however, factoring in an almost equal increase in the property tax base, the estimated impact is just .5 percent. For the owners of a $150,000 home, the increase would be .84 cents per year on the county portion of their property taxes.

Citizens unable to attend the public meetings are also welcome to provide input at any County Board meeting, or by contacting commissioners directly. Contact information can be found at stlouiscountymn.gov/countyboardThe Board is scheduled to vote on the final levy and budget at its December 19 meeting.
